Family and Carer Guidance

Support for families trying to make decisions, coordinate care, understand needs and advocate without burning out. We help carers access knowledge, clarity and connection in one place.

What We Do

Families and informal carers are often the invisible backbone of Australia's care system. They coordinate, advocate, interpret, translate, attend meetings, manage paperwork, and hold everything together — often with very little support directed at them personally. Family and carer guidance is about shifting that. We work with carers and family advocates to help them understand their own rights, access their own support, and build the knowledge they need to sustain the work they do for others.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this service designed for?

This service is for people who provide informal care, support, or advocacy for someone they love — whether that is a parent, child, partner, sibling, or close friend. It is also for families trying to make decisions together about care, support, or a loved one's future.

My family member has their own support team. Can I still access this service?

Yes. Family and carer guidance is about supporting you — not duplicating the role of the person's support coordinator, allied health team, or service providers. We focus on helping you understand your role, access information, and care for your own capacity.

What if we are not sure what kind of support we need?

That is a very common starting point. Many families come to us without a clear question — just a sense that they are overwhelmed, underprepared, or unsure of their next step. We begin by listening and helping you identify what would be most useful.

Can this service help with carer recognition or carer payments?

We can help you understand what carer support programs exist, what you may be eligible for, and how to access them. We do not process applications on your behalf, but we can help you feel confident doing so.

Is this only for carers of people with disability?

No. We support families and carers across all contexts — including aged care, mental health, chronic illness, acquired injury, neurodivergence, and complex family circumstances. If you are providing informal support to someone you love, this service is for you.
